The head coach of the Stanley Boxing fight team brings with him 35 years of personal experience in boxing and combat sports. John began boxing at the Mount Pearl Boxing Club at the age of 15. A provincial heavyweight champion, level 2 official, and level 3 boxing coach, he served as the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial coach for almost ten years, as well as a short stint with the Canadian National team in 2001.
In his hometown of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, John was named Mount Pearl Sport Alliance coach of the year on four consecutive occasions from 1997 – 2000, as well as sports manager of the year in 2001.
John is one of four current National Team Coaches for WAKO Canada. He has spent the last 11 years developing his kickboxing style and program modeled after the Dutch style and was awarded his WAKO 3rd degree blackbelt in 2020 by Five-time world champion Muzzamel Nawaz.
He has produced 11 National Champions in three different combat sports, five since 2016 as well as over forty national medallists and provincial Champions in three separate provinces.
Coach John is known by his athletes as someone who legitimately cares about their well-being and overall experience in the sport.
